South-West London’s Ché Sampson Unveils Empowering New Single, ‘Believe’
It’s one thing to be told that you should believe in something - it’s another to actually feel the joy that comes from an unwavering, empowering belief in God. On her new single, ‘Believe’, South-West London’s angelic songsmith, Ché Sampson, is definitely communicating the latter of the two.
Since putting out ‘Our God Is’ in 2013 as part of her New Every Morning EP, Ché Sampson has explored a variety of musical palettes and stylistic influences. Ché Sampson’s new single, ‘Believe’, epitomises this persistent artistic curiosity.
‘Believe’ is set to feature on Ché Sampson’s hotly anticipated debut album, and is a beautifully drawn-in, semi-acoustic track. It exudes Ché Sampson’s trademark sense of calm and tranquillity, while at the same time exhibiting a newfound vulnerability. She exposes her struggles and anxieties for everyone to see, but then wraps them in the warm, cushioned embrace of faith.
“What God has for you will surely come true/Why waste time thinking of the worst things?/He’s working it out/Trust in Him.”
It’s not a song that tries to tell listeners that they will be able to avoid any troubles in life - it’s a lyrical exploration of the fact that, despite the inevitable struggles that we encounter, we do not need to worry, as long as we wholeheartedly believe in God’s plan for us.
It’s a life lesson that Ché Sampson has had to come to terms with in her own journey, after struggling to believe in herself and find the courage to share her voice. But then, as she documents in the song, Ché Sampson realised that she could draw self-assurance from the knowledge that God created her for a broader purpose - of which her musical creativity forms a huge part.
Ché Sampson muses, “On ‘Believe’, which I co-wrote with my brother, I wanted to normalise the negative thoughts we often experience. l didn't think God could use me, as l didn't value or believe in myself. Remembering that God has created us in His image and that we are loved by Him helps me to shine. At first, I was not confident enough to share the gift He’d given to me, but as I sing in ‘Believe’, “Let your light shine in a dark world” - your life has a purpose, and can help and empower others”.
One thing’s for sure - people certainly want to hear Ché Sampson’s voice. She has a rare ability to sonically capture the stillness that comes with faith, and this is embodied on ‘Believe’. The track is out now on all platforms, and will feature on Ché Sampson’s upcoming debut album, Break Of Day, which will be released on January 13th 2023.
